Int'l Veteran's Day Message

November 11, 2025, By IHQ

Veterans Day stands as a solemn moment of reflection; a time when we consider the journey of our lives, the struggles we’ve endured, the dreams we pursue, the triumphs we celebrate, and the hope we hold for a better future. A future where all people can freely express themselves and chase their passions, knowing that behind that freedom stands the courage of men and women who willingly serve on the front lines, prepared to give their all so that others may live free.

This day reminds us of a truth we must never forget: freedom is not free.

Throughout our nation’s history, millions have answered the call to protect liberty, democracy, and the promise of opportunity. And on this day, we pause to honor, celebrate, and thank those who have served, those who continue to serve, and those who have paid the ultimate price through their sacrifice.

Since our founding in 1914, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. has stood firmly on the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. Just two years later, in 1916, as our nation called her sons to defend the ideals of freedom, Sigmas answered. From the trenches of World War I to the modern battlefields of today, our brothers have stood in service—through peacetime and war, at home and abroad. Many gave their lives. Many continue to give of themselves, long after their uniform is folded away.

We do not take this lightly.

Veterans Day carries a deep and personal meaning for our Brotherhood. We recognize not only our brothers who serve, but also the women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and the countless fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, sons, and daughters in our families and communities who have taken up the mantle of service.

We understand the cost.

To those brave souls, man or woman, who have worn the uniform of our armed forces, we uplift you. We cherish your unwavering commitment, and we speak your names with pride. In a time when the value of service can be obscured by political rhetoric or divided discourse, Phi Beta Sigma stands firm in echoing this truth:

Your service matters. Your sacrifice is honored. Your legacy endures.

Let us not simply remember our veterans today. Let us honor them by the way we live, by the respect we show, and by the service we continue to render to our communities and our nation. On behalf of the General Board and the Men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., we sincerely want you to know that we thank you and honor your service on this Veterans Day.

Fraternally,
Hon. Bro. David A. Turner
