The community-led counteroffensive against Project 2025. In today’s political landscape, policy proposals and executive orders are no longer abstract threats; they are actively being implemented, directly affecting civil rights, education, and economic opportunities within the Black community. This forum aims to equip our members and allies with the necessary tools to protect our communities from this agenda — The Community Defense Blueprint. Join us on Thursday, September 2025, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM PDT at the Westin Washington DC Downtown, Rock Creek Ballroom - Salon A, 999 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
Central to Real Talk, workshops aim to combat the stigma surrounding mental illness while offering resources for mental wellness, managing anxiety, grief, and other emotional challenges. Recent sessions have focused on promoting positive mental health practices and featured practical strategies for healing. Some key focus areas of Real Talk include:
Civic Engagement: The fraternity fosters discussions on the importance of voting, voter registration, and legislative policies. A 2022 Real Talk forum explored topics such as voting rights, gun violence, and women’s rights in the context of the midterm elections.
Physical Health: Real Talk addresses health disparities affecting men of color, including conditions like prostate cancer and sickle cell disease. The initiative promotes awareness about preventative screenings and healthy lifestyle choices.
Social Justice: Through Real Talk and other programs, the fraternity advocates for social justice, including criminal justice reform and reentry support for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Substance Abuse: Some Real Talk sessions have addressed issues related to nicotine and tobacco use, with a focus on how these products are marketed to younger Black communities.
HIV/AIDS: Under the Sigma Wellness umbrella, the Conversations Among Brothers series has specifically raised awareness about HIV/AIDS, promoting peer-to-peer discussions and encouraging regular testing.
