World Sickle Cell Day

June 11, 2026, By IHQ

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Western Region invites all Brothers to mark their calendars for the World Sickle Cell Day Virtual Support Session on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 3:30 PM PDT. Join Bro. André Harris, National Sickle Cell Liaison Director, Sabrina Jackson-Jennings, Senior Sickle Cell Community Liaison with Novo Nordisk, and a dedicated group of Phi Beta Sigma members who are sickle cell warriors and caregivers. Together, we will discuss sickle cell disease education and advocacy as we honor World Sickle Cell Day.

Observed annually in June, World Sickle Cell Day was established by the United Nations in 2008 to raise global awareness of sickle cell disease (SCD). The day highlights the challenges faced by patients, families, and caregivers while advocating for increased research, funding, and equitable healthcare worldwide.

How You Can Get Involved

  1. Access Resources: Find materials, toolkits, and guidance on supporting youth with SCD through the Sickle Cell Society.
  2. Donate Blood: Blood transfusions are a critical, life-saving treatment for many living with SCD. Participate in drives organized by local groups such as the American Red Cross to help maintain a safe blood supply.
  3. Participate in Events: Join national and community happy hours, research symposiums, and advocacy webinars to “Shine the Light on Sickle Cell.”
