Founded on January 9, 1914, at Howard University in Washington, DC, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is one of the nine historically African American Greek letter organizations comprising the National Pan-Hellenic Council. For more than 112 years, the Fraternity has been guided by its principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service, building a legacy of lead-ership, academic excellence, and community impact. Today, Phi Beta Sigma serves more than 18,000 members across collegiate and alumni chapters in the United States, Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean from its International Head-quarters (IHQ) in Washington DC. The IHQ manages national operations, member services, programs, communications, and organizational governance. Its signature programs-Education, Bigger and Better Business, and Social Action-con-tinue to drive meaningful change in communities worldwide.
Phi Beta Sigma is now seeking Interns available for 10 weeks for it's 2026 Summer Internship Program (SIP). The SIP is a 10-week, paid, hybrid experience running from June 1 through August 7, 2026. Interns will be placed across five functional areas at International Headquarters-Administration & Operations, Communications, Marketing, Membership Experience, and Finance & Accounting-gaining hands-on professional development while contributing directly to the Fraternity's mission and operations.
1. Administration & Operations Intern (Paid)
The Administration and Operations team is the backbone of Phi Beta Sigma's International Headquarters, keeping systems running and the organization positioned to deliver on its mission. As an Admin/Operations Intern, you will support sched uling, correspondence, records management, and cross-departmental project coordination. This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented person who wants meaningful exposure to how a national nonprofit operates at the executive level.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with scheduling, calendar management, and meeting coordination for leadership
- Support event logistics for fraternity programs, regional meetings, and conventions
- Manage physical and digital filing systems; draft memos, correspondence, and meeting agendas
- Coordinate supply ordering, vendor communications, and travel arrangements
- Support cross-departmental project coordination as directed by operations leadership
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate from an accredited college/university, or working professional
- Strong organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication; discretion with confidential information
2. Communications Intern (Paid)
The Communications team shapes how Phi Beta Sigma tells its story to its members, partners, and the world. As a Communications Intern, you will draft content for newsletters and press releases, support digital platform management, and assist with media monitoring and event coverage. Strong writers with a passion for mission-driven work and compelling storytelling will thrive in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft press releases, blog posts, and newsletter articles; maintain the content calendar
- Support digital platform management and assist with media monitoring and event coverage.
- Monitor media mentions and compile media activity reports for leadership
- Conduct audience research and recommend content strategies to strengthen engagement
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field
- Strong writing and editing skills; familiarity with AP style preferred
- Portfolio or writing samples required
3. Marketing Intern (Paid)
Phi Beta Sigma's brand reaches a global Brotherhood and a broad community of partners and supporters. As a Marketing Intern, you will develop and schedule social media content, assist with graphic design for campaigns, and track perform-ance analytics across platforms. This role offers the opportunity to build a real portfolio while working on a brand with national reach and a 112-year legacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and schedule social media content across Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, and Linkedin
- Create graphics using Canva or Adobe Suite for campaigns, events, and digital communications
- Track engagement analytics and compile performance reports with recommendations
- Conduct audience research and recommend strategies to grow brand reach and visibility
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field
- Familiarity with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar)
- Experience with Canva or Adobe Suite preferred; portfolio of work samples required
4. Membership Experience Intern (Paid)
With more than 18,000+ active members across collegiate, alumni, and Life Member segments, Phi Beta Sigma's Membership Experience team keeps the Brotherhood connected. As a Membership Experience Intern, you will assist with database management, member inquiries, chapter compliance tracking, and engagement campaigns using the Frater-nity's CRM systems. If you're interested in member relations, nonprofit operations, or association management, this is where that career begins.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the membership database/CRM; respond to member inquiries
- Support chapter compliance tracking, reporting, and membership drives
- Help coordinate reactivation campaigns, new member orientation, and regional events
- Prepare membership reports and data visualizations for leadership
- Respond to member inquiries via the FreshDesk platform
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate, strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Experience with databases or CRM systems preferred; proficiency in Excel
- Interest in fraternal life, member engagement, or higher education administration
5. Finance & Accounting Intern
Phi Beta Sigma's Finance Team maintains the financial operations that keep a 112-year-old international organization running. As a Finance Team Intern, you will work under the leadership of the Director of Finance to support manth-end close, transaction management, accounts payable & receivable, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance moni toring. This is an exciting hands-on opportunity for persons pursuing Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration to see the practical application of their coursework.
Key Responsibilities
- Process invoices, expense reports, and payment requests; support bank reconciliations and audit preparation
- Enter financial detail into the General Ledger, maintain organized financial records
- Assist with membership A/R tracking (membership dues) and audit preparation
- Support month-end close processes, budget tracking, and financial reporting
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Basic understanding of US GAAP; familiarity with QuickBooks Online
- Skilled in Excel/Google Sheets (XLOOKUP, nested IFs); strong attention to detail

Compensation & Position Details
In accordance with the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023, the hourly rate for all Summer 2026 Internship Program positions is $18.50 per hour. All positions are part-time (20 hours per week), non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), for a 10-week duration from June 1 through August 7, 2026.
