The rise of Rho Psi Sigma

December 22, 2018, By PBSWest.org

For years Men of Sigma have come and gone from Okinawa—many of which whom have had a desire to charter a chapter or otherwise be active in the name of our wondrous band. Informal meetings between Brothers Troy Thompson, Rodney Holloway, and Durell Archie, and visits from Nu Eta Sigma Chapter | Tokyo, Japan never materialized the chartering of a chapter on the island in the East China Sea.

With everyone onboard, the brothers looked to utilize their Nu Eta Sigma resources to set the foundation for chartering the chapter. The group was first governed as a satellite chapter under the leadership of Nu Eta Sigma Chapter, having their own vice president, and other offices filled by local Okinawa members.

The first informational was held and financial members became M.I.P. certified in order to be approved to conduct an intake process. The result of the intake process brought in Brothers Calvin Stigall, Makelle Kervin, Brian Harris, Jarmal Berry and Everett Myles into the fold under the Nu Eta Sigma name.

On August 1st, 2018, Bro. Mark Armstrong, Western Regional Director, gave permission to start a working group to charter a chapter in Okinawa. The request was submitted to International Headquarters (IHQ) shortly thereafter.

On August 14th, 2018, the Rho Psi Sigma Chapter was finally approved and given full recognition within the fraternity by our 35th International President, the Honorable Bro. Micheal E. Cristal. Brothers Jarmal Berry, Brian Harris, Rodney Holloway, David Johnson, Makelle Kervin, Everett Myles, Cedric Smith, Robin Reese, Calvin Stigall, Andrew White, and Dexter Williams are recognized as its chartering members.
